About Us

Who We Are

Women in Electrical and Computer Engineering (WECE) is a student organization within the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Founded to address the gender imbalance in the field, WECE exists to build a supportive, inclusive, and empowering community for women and underrepresented genders pursuing electrical or computer engineering.

Our Mission

WECE is committed to fostering academic, professional, and personal growth through programming that promotes leadership, collaboration, and community. We aim to increase the recruitment, retention, and success of women in electrical and computer engineering by offering:

  • Opportunities for community-building and mentorship

  • Events centered around professional development and technical learning

  • Advocacy for inclusive learning and working environments in STEM

Who Can Join

Membership is open to any enrolled UW–Madison student who identifies as a woman or belongs to another underrepresented gender group in engineering. While WECE is rooted in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, membership is also extended to:

  • Students in the College of Engineering with a genuine interest in ECE

  • Computer Science majors with plans to pursue or switch to ECE

We welcome all who are committed to our mission and values.
